Softball Falls to Staten Island

STATEN ISLAND, NY—The York College softball team fell to the College of Staten Island, 11-1, on Saturday in their first game against a CUNY Athletic Conference opponent. With the loss the Lady Cardinals fall to 0-2, 0-1 in the CUNYAC.
York jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after the top of the first. Lotonia Dolhouse started the game off with a single and then stole second. After an error advanced to her to third, Chiquita Greene singled her home to give York the early advantage.
However, CSI (4-10, 1-0 CUNYAC) would quickly respond as they put up a four-spot on York in both the first and second innings to take an 8-1 lead. That would be more than enough for Staten Island pitcher Kara Drew Variale who held York to three hits and one run in five innings.
York will visit City Tech on Monday at 3:30 p.m.
