JAMAICA, NY— The York College women’s basketball team fell to the College of Staten Island, 77-57, in their final home game of the season on Friday night. The loss drops the Cardinals record to 7-16, 5-8 in the CUNYAC.
CSI controlled the game from tip-off jumping out to a 10-0 advantage. The Dolphins continued to extend their lead throughout the first half and took a 19 point cushion, 48-29, into the locker room.
The Lady Cardinals played with Staten Island in the second half, with the Dolphins holding a 29-28 edge in points. However, York was unable to cut into the lead significantly as the Dolphins maintained a comfortable lead throughout the rest of the game.
Jamie Mohan (Bellmore, NY/ Mepham), playing in her final home game of her career, netted a season-high 11 points. Maimouna Dabo (Bamako, Mali/ Lycee Notre Dame du Niger) also netted 11 points and pulled down six rebounds. Senior Joyce Wood (Flushing, NY/ Health Professions), also playing in her final game, had six points and nine rebounds to pace York. CSI’s Megan Sullivan had a game-high 17 points to lead the Dolphins.
York will wrap up the regular season in a non-conference match up against St. Josephs (Brooklyn) on February 13. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. at St. Joseph’s.
