Rouse and Kearny Lead Men’s Swimming to Win; Lady Cardinals Fall against FDU-Florham
MADISON, NJ— Corey Rouse (Jamaica, NY/ St. Benedicts Prep) won three events and James Kearney (Hempstead, NY/ Hempstead) won two to lead the York College men’s swim team to a 58-55 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson University Florham Friday evening. On the women’s side, the Lady Cardinals fell, 122-05.
Rouse, a freshman, continued his strong rookie season, touching the wall first in the 100-free, 50-free, and 50-fly. Kearney took first in the 100-breast and 50-breast and finished second behind Rouse in the 50-freestyle and 50-fly. In addition, Brian Miller (Hempstead, NY/ Uniondale) was first in the 200-free and Karim Chesimard (Hempstead, NY/ Uniondale) placed first in the 200-IM
For the women, Averie Mohammed (Queens, NY/ Jamaica) got another first place finish in the 50-freestyle, while Ayanna Bennett (Hempstead, NY/ Uniondale) took second. Bennett also earned the win in the 50-fly, while Dawn Davis (Cambria Heights, NY/ Van Buren) placed first in the 100-breast.
With the win, the men improve to 2-3 on the season, while the women fall to 1-6.
