York Men's and Women’s Swimming Defeats Old Westbury; Ladies Fall to New Rochelle in Tri-Meet

NEW ROCHELLE, NY— The York College men’s swim team defeated Old Westbury 39-14, while the women’s swim team topped Old Westbury 55-43 and fell to the College of New Rochelle 67-54 in a tri-meet held at the College of New Rochelle Friday. 

 

Men’s Recap

Junior James Kearney and sophomore Corey Rouse each took first place in four events.  Kearney touched the wall first in the 50-free, 100-IM, 100-breaststroke, and 200 medley relay, while Rouse earned the gold in the 100-free, 50-free, 50-fly and the 200-medley relay as the Cardinals improved to 1-2 on the year. 

 

Women’s Recap

Sophomore Ayanna Bennett and freshman Averie Mohammed also took first in four events apiece.  Bennett was first in the 100-backstroke, 50- backstroke, 100-breasttroke, and the 200-free relay and Mohammed took first in the 100-free, 50-free, 100-IM, and 100-fly.  The Lady Cardinals are now 1-4 on the year.

 

Both teams will host conference-foe Baruch College on Monday at 6 p.m.
