Box Score

JAMAICA, NY – In a key City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) match, the York College men’s soccer team was edged, 2-1, by Baruch College on Wednesday evening.  With the loss to Baruch and a win by Hunter College over Medgar Evers College earlier, the Cardinals fall from first to third place in the CUNYAC standings.

Both teams were scoreless for the first 35 minutes until Baruch’s Val Kirykovich scored off his own rebound to make it 1-0 in favor of the Bearcats.  Daniel Ospina assisted on the goal.

The score remained the same until the 79th minute when Baruch’s Juan Vasconez set up Dominick Cinquemani for Baruch’s second goal of the game.

In the 86th minute, York’s Elysee Vilsaint (Port-au-Prince, Haiti/ South Shore) cut the lead in half when he beat Baruch goalie Nelson DiBastiano on a shot from outside the 18-yard box.   However, it was too little, too late for the Cardinals and they were unable to net a goal to tie the game in the final four minutes.

Baruch out shot York 20-10, while the Cardinals held a 7-5 edge in corner kicks.  DiBastiano stopped three shots in goal, while York’s Marcin Kasza (Kobluszi, Poland/ Newcomers) made six saves.

Baruch improves to 5-2-3 overall and 4-1 in CUNYAC play, while the Cardinals fall to 7-6, 4-2 in the CUNYAC.  York will look to rebound from the loss when they host City Tech on Saturday at noon.
