Box Score

JAMAICA, NY— Playing against the 25th ranked team in the country, the York College soccer team lost a tough match, losing 8-1 to Drew University Wednesday afternoon.  The match was closer than the score indicated as York trailed only 2-1 with 32 minutes remaining in the game.   However, Drew exploded for six goals in the final 32 minutes to run away with the match.

Drew controlled the ball through the first half, out shooting York, 15-1 before halftime.  However, thanks to some strong defensive plays and some nice saves by Cardinal goalie Pierreson Pierre-Louis (Port-au-Prince, Haiti/ Van Buren), the Cardinals only trailed 2-0 at halftime.

In the second half, York managed to cut the lead in half when Ini Ekanem (Lagos, Nigeria/ Evander Childs) set up Kurtney Peter (Vieux Fort, St. Lucia/ Vieux For CSC) for a goal to make the score 2-1 in the 54th minute.

However, shortly after, fatigue started to set in for the Cardinals who were playing with a short bench.  Meanwhile, Drew continued to put in fresh legs from its roster that is 34 people deep.   The Rangers took advantage and netted six goals to turn the game into a blowout.

Drew outshot York 25-4 and held a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks.  Pierre-Louis made nine stops for York.

The Cardinals will return to conference action on Saturday when they visit CCNY at 5:00 pm.
