Lady Cardinals Can’t Hold on Against John Jay

JAMAICA, NY—John Jay College over came a 32-25 halftime deficit to defeat the York College women’s basketball team 63-52 on Friday night. Despite the loss, Delores Maeweather (Jamaica, NY/ Campus Magnet) had a game-high 17 points to lead York.
The Cardinals looked to be in control in the first half. A jumper by Niya Jarvis (Bronx, NY/ Talent Unlimited) with 4:04 in the half gave York a 24-15 lead. York would take a seven point lead into the locker room.
In the second half, a three-pointer by Maeweather gave York its biggest lead of the game, 35-25, with 18 minutes to play. However, things turned quickly after that. Five minutes later, a lay-up by John Jay’s Parker Griffin tied the game at 37-37. John Jay then went on an 11-4 run to go up 49-41 with 7:29 to play. The Bloodhounds extendeded their lead to as many as 13 before winning by 11.
York falls to 5-13, 3-5 in the CUNYAC. They will be idle until January 26 when they visit Brooklyn College at 12:30 pm.
