Men’s Soccer Tops Staten Island; Win Fourth Straight

Cardinals Stay atop CUNYAC Standings

, NY The York College men’s soccer team picked up its fourth consecutive win on Wednesday afternoon, defeating City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) rival Staten Island 3-1.  

With the scored tied at 1-1 in the second half, Michel Nicolas (Port-au-Prince, Haite/ Newtown) netted the eventual game-winning goal for the Cardinals in the 68th minute.  The goal was his third of the season.  

Midway through the first half, Francisco Florez got the Cardinals on the board first with his fourth goal of the season at the 31:25 mark.  The score remained 1-0 until halftime.  After halftime, Staten Island evened the score on a goal by Sam Musovic.  

After the goal by Nicolas, Sylvester Boake (Brooklyn, NY/ Canarsie) set up Sergio Restrepo (Columbia/ Bryant) for an insurance goal in the 70th minute.  

Senior goalie Kafui Kouakou (Togo, Africa/ CTC Ora Labora) stopped seven shots, including two diving saves in the first half. 

The Cardinals, 6-3, 3-0 in the CUNYAC are idle until September 29 when they will visit Farmingdale at 1 p.m.
