Cardinals Top SUNY Potsdam 76-65; Win Third Straight

POTSDAM, NY— The York College men’s basketball team defeated SUNY Potsdam, 76-65, on Saturday night for their third straight win. Michael Salamanca (Hollis, NY/ Cardozo) scored a game-high 24 points, while grabbing five rebounds and nabbing three steals and Chris Roberts (Jamaica, NY/ Springfield Gardens) had 19 points and five boards to lead York.
After the Cardinals led for most of the first half, Potsdam went on a 12-2 run to capture the lead, 33-31, heading into half-time. York, however, came back strong in the second half, shooting 80% from the floor. With 8:45 left in the second half, senior Chris Roberts (Jamaica/Springfield Gardens) connected on a lay-up to give York a 56-54 lead. The Cardinals then went on a 13-4 run to pull away from the Bears.
Freshman Omari Phipps (Laurelton, NY/ St. Johns Prep) has 12 points and eight rebounds and Jonathan Winns (Elmhurst, NY/ Newtown) added nine points to pace York.
The Cardinals improve to 5-3 and are now 4-0 on the road this season. York will be back in action on Tuesday when it opens up its conference schedule at home against Brooklyn College. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m.
