Lady Cardinals Downed by Rutgers-Newark

JAMAICA, NY— The York College women’s basketball team fell to Rutgers-Newark, 58-32, in a non-conference match-up on Wednesday night. The loss drops the Lady Cardinals record to 4-7 on the season.
The Lady Cardinals got out to an early 6-2 lead when Della Jean-Louis (Brooklyn, NY/ All-City Leadership) connected on a lay-up with 16:12 left in the first half. However, shortly after, Rutgers-Newark went on an 11-0 run which gave them a 20-8 lead. Rutgers-Newark extended their lead to as many as 19 points and led 35-16 going into the locker room.
In the second half, Rutgers-Newark continued to extend their lead and led by as many as 29 points before eventually winning 58-32.
Delores Maeweather (Jamaica, NY/ Campus Magnet) led York with 10 points, despite only playing in the second half. Jean-Louis finished with nine points and Elizabeth Padilla (Brooklyn, NY/ Bushwick) netted seven points and grabbed four rebounds.
The Lady Cardinals will be idle for Christmas break and will return to action on January 3 when they host Baruch at 6 p.m.
