Box Score

JAMAICA, NY A goal by Paul Cardoza (Jamaica, NY/ Campus Magnet) in the 81st minute would be all the Cardinals needed as the York College’s men’s soccer team edged conference-rival Baruch College 1-0 on Wednesday afternoon.  With the win the Cardinals improve to 9-5 and a perfect 6-0 in the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC).

Matthew Duncan (Queens, NY/ Jamaica) set up Cardoza for the game-winner on a pass from midfield that left Cardoza all alone for his conference-leading eighth goal of the season.

Marcin Kasza (Poland/ Newcomers) made three saves in goal in relief of starter Kafui Kouakou (Togo, Africa/ CTC Ora Labora) who left the game in the 64th minute due to injury.

There was little action in the first half, as the defenses dominated play.  Baruch held a 3-2 advantage in shots in the first half.  In the second half, each team turned up the intensity with Baruch out shooting York 8-7.   The Bearcats held a 3-1 edge in corner kicks for the game.

Baruch falls to 4-10, 2-4 in the CUNYAC with the loss.

The Cardinals will look to extend their perfect season in conference play as they visit Medgar Evers on Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
