Women Sweep Relay Events, while Men Place Fourth at CUNYAC Track and Field Championships

RANDALLS ISLAND, NY— The York College men's track and field team took fourth place at the Applebee's/CUNY Athletic Conference Track and Field Championships, while the women—who did not score—swept the two relay events on Sunday at Icahn Stadium.
The team of Kemilla John, Wendella Rankin, Denecia Gardener and Antoinette Smile bested seven other teams in the 4x100 meter relay, crossing the line first with a time of 50.10. Later in the day, John, Rankin, Gardener and Alexis Schloss were victorious in the 4x400 meter relay, easily defeating the competition with a time of 4:11.42.
John also had a big day individually placing second in both the 100-meter dash (12.55) and the 200-meter dash (26.12). Gardener finished fourth in the 100-meter dash (13.12) and Rankin was fourth in the 400-meter dash (1:03.23).
In field events, it was John once again leading York, placing third in the high jump, while Smile also took third place in the triple jump.
The men were led by Tarik Weekes who was the winner in the 800-meter run (1:58.92). Weekes also placed second in the 1,500 meters (4:17.62), while teammate Lance Fleming came in right behind him in third place (4:18.87). Fleming also earned third place in the 800-meter run (2:00.97).
The 4x400 relay team of Fleming, Weekes, Christopher Peguero and Ronel Phillip were second in a time of 3:28.26. In field events, Steve Burnett placed third in the hammer throw with a distance of 32.02 meters.
CCNY was the big winner, as its men's and women's teams took home both titles.
