RANDALLS
ISLAND, NY – Through the first day of competition at the 2009 City University of New York Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships, the York College women's squad holds a comfortable 40 point lead over its rival Lehman College.

The Lady Cardinals tallied 132 points at Icahn Stadium Sunday, compared to Lehman College who finished with 92, followed by Medgar Evers (54), CCNY (40) and Hunter College (24).

York will be looking for its third straight title when the championships conclude on Tuesday night.  The first event goes off at 6:00 p.m.

Balance was the key for York as the Lady Cardinals scored in every single event but only finished first in two of them; the 10,000 meters and the shot put.  Taneisha Renaud won the 10k with a time of 44:47.72, while Shanine Bogan easily won the shot put with a toss of 10.78 meters, which was more than 2 meters further than her closest competitor.

Meanwhile, last season's championship MVP, Alexandra Nkrumah, made her case for another MVP award, medaling in four events on Sunday.  Nkrumah finished second in both the 100-meter hurdles (16.71) and the long jump (4.87m) and finished third in the 400-meter dash (59.90) and the high jump (1.43m).

Kadisha Wickham also had a big day, scoring in three events.  The freshman placed third in the 100-meter dash (12.81), fourth in the 400-meter dash (1:01.66) and second in the high jump (1.48m).

Alexis Schloss placed in two distance events, earning second place in the 10k (45:08.03) and third place in the 1,500-meters (5:36.51).

In the 4x100 relay, Nkrumah, Wickham, Allana Paul and Wendella Rankin placed second with a time of 49.77.  Averie Mohammed also placed fourth in the discuss (21.71m) to add to York's lead.
