York Wins 16 Events

JAMAICA, NY— The York College track and field team hosted its first meet in several years Saturday and the Cardinals looked right at home, dominating the contest.  Competing against Hunter College, City Tech and Polytechnic, the Cardinals took first in 16 of 23 events. 

 

Junior standout Alexandra Nkrumah was the star of the meet, winning five events.  Nkrumah won the 200-meter dash (27.0), 400-meter dash (1:00.26), long jump (15'5”) and the triple jump (32'9 ½”).  She also was the lead leg on the winning 4 x 100 relay team (53.67).  The relay team was also comprised up of Wendella Rankin, Allana Paul and Dekora Sawyer.

 

Other women winning races included Paul in the 100-meter dash (13.32), Taneisha Renaud in the 1,500 meters (5:28.19) and Alexis Schloss in the 400-meter hurdles (1:16.73). Renaud and Schloss also finished tied in the 800-meters with a time of 2:53.35. 

 

In the field events, Shanine Bogan won all three events; the shot put (39'5”), the hammer throw (97'8”), and the javelin (65'9”).  In the shot put her toss was 10 feet further than her closest competitor.    

 

On the men's side, Chinedu Agu and Kenny Jacquet each took first in a pair of events.  Agu won the 200-meter dash (24.09) and the 400-meter dash (53.35).  Jacquet crossed the line first in the 1,500 meter run (5:00.46) and the 800-meter run (5:00.46).

 

York will compete at the Osprey Open at Richard Stockton College on April 4th.
