Weekes Finishes Second, Leads Men’s Cross Country to Fifth Place at CUNYAC Championships

BRONX, N.Y.— York College junior Tarik Weekes ran his best time of the season, finishing second out of 92 runners with a time of 28:40 in the 8k race at the 2012 CUNY Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships on Sunday morning.  His performance helped propel York to a fifth-place finish at Van Cortlandt Park.
 
York finished with 105 points and was just shy of third place.  Hunter College won the title, scoring 33 points.  The College of Staten Island was second with 82 points, followed by John Jay College with 92 points and CCNY with 98.  John Aiken of Hunter College led the Hawks to the victory, winning the race in a time of 28:38. 
 
York had two other runners in the top 30. Kyle Gomes was 26th overall in 31:57, while Ismail Oluwo was just behind him in 27th place in a time of 31:59. Jason Shaw placed 35th with a time of 32:57.
 
The Cardinals will close out the 2012 season at the ECAC Championships next Saturday in Williamstown, Massachusetts.
